I’ve been buying wearables by Samsung since the very first Galaxy Gear, which morphed into the Galaxy Watch. I’m going to admit to something which will show that I am definitely in the minority among the majority of Samsung Watch fans: I preferred Tizen.

Yes, that’ll open me up to all kinds of criticism – and that’s okay. It’s just my opinion. The truth is, Tizen was more stable, ran virtually 100 free of glitching, which is something I haven’t been able to say about a single Wear OS watch…

…til now. Keep in mind I am still fairly new with the Galaxy Watch 6 Classic…but I’ve had probably more than 10 different Wear OS watches (and before that, back when it was Android Wear). With the possible exception of the Mobvoi TicWatch Pro 5, I have yet to have a Wear OS device that was anywhere as smooth as Tizen or apple’s watches. But so far, I have to say I’ve been pretty impressed with the Watch 6 Classic. Thank HEAVENS Samsung brought back the rotating bezel. I am still puzzled as to why they got rid of it in the first place. It’s the ONE thing that almost all apple fans I know of truly envied about my older Samsung watches. Let’s just say I appreciate that Samsung recognized the error of their ways and brought it back. The virtual bezel that the Watch 4 and 5 had was a creative way around it, unfortunately it only worked sporadically (in my experience) and just did not provide the convenience that a true rotating bezel provides.

I have to admit, the extra half-a-gig of RAM seems to have made a rather significant dent in how much more smooth the 6 is compared to my 5 Pro. It boots up faster, seems to operate on-par with my apple Watch Ultra…at least so far. After almost giving up on Wear OS altogether, it’s nice to know that at least some who are committed to the wearable are at least improving performance – even if I truly believe that it should’ve been ironed out far sooner than now.

The watch itself looks great. Honestly. I have the silver/steel version and I couldn’t think of another color that works better. You can change out the bands and it’ll go with almost any color you can imagine, far better than the black model (IMO).

The charger that comes with it is slightly smaller than the one I came with the Galaxy Watch 3, which still works, but I’m a bit curious as to why it’s roughly 20% smaller? Speaking of which, I sure wish that a charging brick had come with the watch. I have several USB-C cords, but only 1 brick that supports a USB-C plug-in at the back instead of the typical USB. Apple does the same thing for their watches these days and is equally as frustrating.

The battery life is NOT as good as the Watch 5 Pro…and this is one of the endlessly frustrating facts about Samsung. The original Galaxy Watch had – in my opinion – probably the longest battery life of any smart watch I have ever used. When they came out with the GW 3 I assumed that the battery life would be even better. It wasn’t. Samsung 𝙘𝙡𝙖𝙞𝙢𝙚𝙙 that with optimizations, it’s smaller battery would be on par with the original GW…but that wasn’t remotely true. Now we have the Watch 6 Classic and a very similar claim from Samsung about how, despite being smaller, it’s battery life should be very similar to the previous Watch 5 Pro. Unfortunately, not true yet again. Sheesh guys. At least be honest with us.

I really like the silicone band that came with the watch. The stitching makes it look almost leather-like yet very rubber-like underneath against your wrist. All I know is I like it. It remains to be seen whether or not the new bands will be as easy to remove and replace like previous models.

Setting up on my S24 Ultra was a breeze. I only wish that other Wear OS watches would make it AS simple to add music to the watch as Samsung has. Even easier than transferring music to my apple Watch Ultra. This is one area in which Samsung not only wins, but absolutely vaporizes the competition. The app is very user friendly and I am very happy with how easy it was to navigate from the very beginning.

In short, my hopes are much higher for this than they’ve been for a Samsung watch since the GW 3. Time will tell…but at least it seems that Samsung may finally be on its way to getting there.
